TIGERVILLE, S.C. --- The North Greenville
University women's soccer team edged Lees-McRae by a 1-0 score on
Wednesday evening, scoring the winner midway through the second
half in a non-conference matchup.
Lees-McRae (10-5) outshot the Crusaders (7-5) by a 10-2 margin,
which was split into an even 5-1 advantage in each half. Vickie
Rich (Arlington Heights, Ill.), MaryBeth Sullivan (Greensboro,
N.C.), Jessica O'Leary (Milbury, Mass.), and Kaitlyn Kerrigan
(Lakewood Ranch, Fla.) each tallied a pair of shots to pace the
Lady Bobcats.
The match remained deadlocked until the early moments of the
58th minute, when North Greenville's Abby Brack (Gastonia, N.C.)
played a long ball into a streaking Leah Ward (Waynesville, N.C.),
who then delivered a finish into the back of the net for what would
prove to be the match-winner.
Lees-McRae returns to the pitch on Saturday when the Lady
Bobcats travel to Laurinburg, N.C. to resume their Conference
Carolinas schedule against St. Andrews Presbyterian. The match is
slated to kick off at 1 p.m.
