BANNER ELK, N.C. --- Five players scored in
double figures to lead the Lees-McRae College men's basketball team
to a 98-46 win over Johnson & Wales University on Saturday
afternoon in Williams Gymnasium.
Lees-McRae (2-1) shot 55.6 percent from the field, including a
46.7 percent clip from beyond the arc, while holding the Wildcats
(0-9) to 30.5 percent from the floor. The Bobcats won the battle on
the glass by a 43-30 margin, including a 29-16 margin on the
defensive boards, while forcing 24 Wildcat turnovers and recording
18 steals.
Adam McFerran (Stow, Ohio) paced the Bobcats with 14 points on
6-of-10 shooting, while DeAndre Tillman (Charlotte, N.C.) and Matt
Eller (Lake Norman, N.C.) chipped in 12 points each. Sam Youse
(Winston-Salem, N.C.) and Tevin Friday (Gastonia, N.C.) each poured
in 11 points, while Corey Young (Bluff City, Tenn.) dished out a
game-high six assists. Eller also posted a game-high four steals
for the Bobcats.
Michael Daniel (Charlotte, N.C.) led the way for the Wildcats,
posting game-highs of 17 points and 11 rebounds to record a
double-double. Roderick Latimer (Columbia, S.C.) chipped in 12
points for Johnson & Wales.
The Bobcats started strong, opening an early 23-7 lead in the
first eight minutes as McFerran capped a 8-0 LMC spurt with four
straight points. Lees-McRae would continue to dictate play,
widening the margin to 37-11 on a Will Lopez (Sydney, Australia)
jumper at the 8:20 mark on the heels of a 14-4 run. The Bobcats
then closed out the half with an 18-13 spurt, pushing the margin to
55-24 at the intermission.
Lees-McRae would carry the momentum into the second half,
pushing the lead to 74-30 on a Tillman layup with 10 minutes
remaining, which capped a 19-6 run. The Bobcats then closed out the
win with a 24-16 run over the final 10 minutes to record their
second straight win.
The Bobcats return to the court on Tuesday when they host
Tusculum College at 7 p.m. in Williams Gymnasium.
