HIGH POINT, N.C. --- Junior Mary Dorn (Shallot,
N.C.) has garnered all-conference honors for the second straight
season, headlining a group of five players from the Lees-McRae
College women's soccer team on the 2010 all-Conference Carolinas
team, announced the league office Thursday.
Dorn, freshman MaryBeth Sullivan (Greensboro, N.C.), and junior
Brooke Santerre (Port Republic, Md.) each earned a spot on the
first team, while junior Vickie Rich (Arlington Heights, Ill.) and
senior Brittany Bolton (Roanoke, Va.) garnered second team
recognition. Rich and Dorn each received their second
all-conference team honors, while Sullivan, Santerre, and Bolton
garnered all-league recognition for the first time in their
careers.
Sullivan has been a tremendous part of the Lady Bobcats' success
this season, leading the team with 13 goals and 35 points, while
posting the second-highest assist total (nine) on the squad. The
reigning Conference Carolinas Player of the Week currently ranks
second in the conference in goals and points, while recording the
league's third-highest assist total. A native of Greensboro, N.C.,
Sullivan has posted two goal-scoring streaks of at least four
matches, including an active stretch of four straight contests.
Dorn, a defender from Shallot, N.C.), is one of the primary
reasons behind Lees-McRae's defensive success in 2010, providing
veteran leadership to a youthful backline that as allowed two or
more goals just twice this season. The junior fullback has garnered
all-conference recognition in each of her two seasons with the Lady
Bobcats, earning a spot on the second team in 2009. In two seasons
with LMC, Dorn has started 33 matches and scored one goal.
Santerre is in the midst of her best season with the Lady
Bobcats, entering the semifinal round of the conference tournament
ranked third on the team in goals (eight), assists (seven), and
points (23), totals which each rank among the top six players in
the league. The junior midfielder made history for Lees-McRae
earlier this week, becoming the program's first player to garner
ESPN Academic All-District honors with her second-team
selection.
Rich garners all-conference recognition for the second time in
her career, earning a spot on the second team after being selected
to the first team a season ago. The 2009 Daktronics NCAA Division
II All-America selection has posted 10 goals, seven assists, and 27
points this season, while notching the league's second-highest
match-winning goal total (six). A native of Arlington Heights,
Ill., Rich has tallied 30 goals, 17 assists, 77 points, and 12
match-winners thus far in her career.
Bolton has put together the best season of her career this fall,
turning in a personal-low goals against average of 1.04, in
addition to five shutouts. The senior goalkeeper has been
tremendous in conference play for the Lady Bobcats this season,
posting a superb 0.62 goals against average, as well as four clean
sheets against league opponents.
Lees-McRae returns to the pitch on Thursday when the
fourth-seeded Lady Bobcats travel to Belmont, N.C. to take on
top-seeded and regular season champion Belmont Abbey College in the
semifinal round of the Conference Carolinas Tournament. The match
is slated to kick off at 2 p.m.
