GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Lees-McRae College men's lacrosse team
used a seven goal first period to win their season-opener over
Guilford College, 17-9, Saturday afternoon in a non-conference
men's game.
Matt Markey started the scoring off in the fist period with a
goal less than two minutes into the game off a Brett Yusiewicz
assists. After two Guilford goals, the Bobcats tallied off eight
straight goals, six in the first period and two in the second
period to take a 9-2 lead.
Ryan LeBlanc scored the first goal of the run at the 10:04 mark
in the first period, and was followed by Landon Young six minutes
later on a Westen Taylor assist. The Bobcats would score the four
goals of the period in a four-minute span. Josh Shingleton had two
of the goals, and Nathan Hammer and Yuisewicz added the final two
goals in the period.
Landon Young started the scoring off in the second period at the
7:32 mark on a Derin Vacca assist, and Landon Guntman scored the
final goal of the 8-0 run with 3:39 to play in the period on an
assist from Hammer.
Two Guilford goals closed out the period to make the score 9-4
at the half.
The third period saw the least amount of goals, four, three from
Lees-McRae and one from Guilford. Shingleton scored the first and
last goal of the period. Guntman added the other goal for the
Bobcats in the period.
Guilford scored the first goal of the fourth, before Quinn
Struble, Yusiewicz and Jordan Shreiner notched three in a row for
the Bobcats.
Guntman and Danny Ives scored the final Lees-McRae goals, but
Guilford notched the final two goals of the game to give the game
the final of 17-9.
Shingleton led the Bobcats with six goals followed by Guntman
with three. Matt Markey led the team with four assists.
Lees-McRae will host Lake Erie on February 27th for their next
game.
