BANNER ELK, N.C. - With four seconds in the game the Lees-McRae
College Bobcats missed an basket off a baseline inbound to fall to
the Limestone College Saints, 62-59, Wednesday night in Conference
Carolinas men's basketball game.
After keeping the Limestone lead under double digits in the
second, Anthony Johnson made two free throws to pull the Bobcats
within one point, 58-57 with 1:56 to play. After a defensive stop,
Jeremiah Henry gave the Bobcats the lead, 60-59, with 38 seconds to
play on a tough basket in the lane, but Queens took it right back
with a Jarrell Douglass bucket with 19 seconds on the clock. After
the first Bobcat play was spoiled forcing an inbound, Adam McFerran
made a great move and got off a contested shot that rattle in and
out. Tryon Evans grabbed the rebound for the Saints and was fouled
with one second on the clock. Evans hit both of his free throws
to give the Saints the 62-59 win.
In the first half, Limestone took an early 6-5 lead on a
Douglass field goal just three minutes into the game, and the
Saints would the lead to eight, 18-10, at the 11-minute mark. They
would take their largest lead of the half, 11 points, two minutes
later with a 23-12 lead, but Lees-McRae would close the gap to five
on a Corey Young three with 1:34 remaining in the half. However,
Limestone would make the last basket to take a 26-34 lead into the
locker rooms and set up for the second half finish.
Overall Limestone was 38 percent from the floor and 22 percent
from three, while Lees-McRae was 37 percent overall and 27 percent
from three.
McFerran led the Bobcats with 13 points, and Henry added eight
points. Five Bobcats added six points: Sam Youse, Stephen Haymer,
Johnson, Daniel Sepokas and Jesse Hoots. Haymer and Henry
collected a team-high seven rebounds, and Johsnon had a team-high
five assists.
For Limestone, Douglass and Michael Barrett had a team-high 11
points apiece. Danny Friend added ten points for the Saints by
going 5-of-8 from the floor. Douglass also led the Saints with six
rebounds.
Lees-McRae will host St. Andrews Saturday for their next game
with tipoff set for 4 p.m.
