SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Led by Ellie Psillas, who had nine goals,
and Emily Guenthner, who had five goals, the Lees-McRae College
women's lacrosse team fell the Shepherd University Rams Monday
afternoon, 20-18, in a heartbreaking loss.
The Lady Bobcats fell behind 4-0 before head coach Amanda Chase
called a timeout to settle her team. The timeout paid off as
Psillas got the Bobcats on the board with 22:39 remaining in the
half. Psillas would add three more goals in the half, Guenther
would score two goals, Luaren Martin would put away two goals and
Lexi King would score one goal for Lees-McRae in the half.
However, the Lady Bobcats would trail 12-8 at the half.
In the second half, Lees-McRae would outscore the Rams, 10-8, on
six Psillas' goals, three Guenthner goals and a goal from Jessica
MacConnell, but it wasn't enough as the Lady Bobcats fell
20-18.
The Lady Bobcats outshot the Rams 35-32 and held a 42-32
advantage in ground balls, but Lees-McRae had 32 turnovers compared
to 25 turnovers for Shepherd.
Lees-McRae was also successful in only 14 of 21 clears, while
Shepherd was successful in 19-21 of their clear attempts.
King paced the Lady Bobcats with three assists, and Martin had a
team high six draw controls and nine ground balls.
The Lady Bobcats are scheduled to return to action Saturday
against Queens in Banner Elk.
