GAFFNEY, S.C. - The No. 4 Limestone College (4-1, 1-0) men's
lacrosse team gave the Lees-McRae College Bobcats (3-1, 0-1) their
first loss of the season in a 17-1 decision in the two team's
Conference Carolinas opener.
The Saints got going quickly as freshman Loewen tallied an
unassisted goal at the 12:06 mark of the first quarter to give
Limestone a 1-0 advantage. The Saints would then add five more
goals over the final 5:47 of the first quarter and held a
commanding 6-0 lead after the first period and 8-0 by halftime.
Limestone would score the first two goals of the half to make it
10-0.
The Bobcats lone goal came with 2:24 to play in the third
quarter when Brad Garner found the back of the net on an assist
from Matt Markey to make it 11-1.
The Saints would finish the game with the final six goals to
earn the 17-1 win.
Limestone outshot Lees-McRae 43-18 and won the ground ball
battle, 37-16. The Saints also won 17 of the 22 face-offs and were
successful on 20 of their 25 clear attempt, while the Bobcats were
successful on 16 of their 22 clear attempts.
Lees-McRae will remain on the road for their next game against
St. Andrews Saturday.
