BANNER ELK, N.C. -- Mount Olive's middle hitters Jose Lanier and
Camilo Guerci hit .478 and .481 respectively with 14 kills to give
the Lees-McRae College men's volleyball team their first Conference
Carolinas loss 3-2 (26-30, 27-30, 33-31, 30-25, 15-10) to the
Trojans Friday afternoon in Williams Gymnasium
Trojans rode their middles, Lanier and Guerci, in the final
three sets after falling behind 2-0 to comeback to earn the win.
Lanier finished with eight total blocks, and Guerci had seven total
blocks.
Lees-McRae jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with a 30-26 set one
win and a 30-27 set two win, but the Trojans rallied in set three
to win 33-31. In set four Mount Olive pulled a 30-25 win and
capped the match off with a 15-10 win.
For Lees-McRae, Chad Mercado had a match high 26 kills and seven
total blocks. Raphael Vieira followed with 18 kills, Steven
Bunning tallied 15 kills and a .409 hitting percentage. Juan
Ramirez passed out 65 assists and had a match-high 15 digs.
Leading the way for Mount Olive was Noel Garcia with 18 kills
and .394 hitting percentage. Adam Miracle had 14 kills along with
Lanier and Guerci. Alex Hoekstra had 65 assists and had 11 digs.
Felix Reimundo had 10 digs for the Trojans.
Mount Olive won the battle at the net with two solo blocks and
30 block assists for 17 total blocks, while Lees-McRae had four
solo blocks and 14 block assists for a total of 17 blocks.
Mount Olive improves to 14-2 overall and 5-1 in the conference
while, Lees-McRae slips to 6-6 overall and 4-1 in the
conference.
