BRISTOL, Tenn. - The King College defeated the Lees-McRae
College Bobcats in a Conference Carolina's men's volleyball match
Tuesday, 3-1 (30-23, 28-30, 30-17, 30-27)
King improved to 9-5 on the season and 1-4 in conference play.
Lees-McRae slipped to 6-8 with a 4-2 conference mark.
The Tornado won the opening set 30-23 but Lees-McRae rebounded
in the second for a 30-28 decision. Then King used scores of 30-17
and 30-27 to clinch the match.
Jenson Lavalle had 20 kills and a hitting percentage of .429.
Ariel Apolinario added 17 kills. Michael Koebel and James Friddle
were responsible for 12 and 11 kills, respectively. Friddle also
had a dozen digs with four aces. Joel Salva was credited with 59
assists.
Chad Mercado paced Lees-McRae with 20 kills while Raphael Vieira
had 13. Juan Ramirez provided 49 assists and 11 digs. Mercado had
a team high .388 hitting percentage and five total blocks.
The Tornado served a total of 14 aces in the contest compared to
three for the Bobcats.
Lees-McRae will play at Mount Olive Friday for their next
match.
