MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. - The Mount Olive College Trojans ended
Lees-McRae's chances of winning the Conference Carolinas by handing
the Bobcats a 3-0 (30-23, 30-25, 30-27) loss Friday afternoon.
Mount Olive (14-2, overall, 6-1 Conference Carolinas) built a
two-set lead against Lees-McRae, then used a pair of blocks by
Christiaan Rombaut during a 9-1 run to take a 21-15 lead in the
third set. Lees-McRae (6-9, 4-3) rallied for four unanswered points
and eventually regained the lead at 26-24 after an ace by Raphael
Vieira.
The Trojans pulled within 27-26 and a double block by Camilo
Guerci and Adam Miracle highlighted a match-ending 4-0 run. Garcia
served the final three points for the Trojans.
Alex Hoekstra finished with 45 assists, while Guerci led all
players with seven blocks. Mount Olive, which has the second
highest hitting percentage in the nation, recorded a .375 hitting
percentage against the Bobcats.
Chad Mercado had a match-high 18 kills for Lees-McRae, and Juan
Ramirez handed out 35 assists.
The Bobcats will play Stevens Saturday in Mount Olive for their
next match.
