BANNER ELK, N.C. - Chad Mercado tallied 15 kills and .324
hitting percentage as the Lees-McRae College Bobcats men's
volleyball team rolled to their fourth consecutive win with a 3-1
(30-15, 30-13, 25-30, 30-15) over the Pfeiffer University Falcons
Saturday afternoon in a Conference Carolinas match in Williams
Gymnasium.
Mercado has been on a tear for the Bobcats during the four-game
win streak leading the team in kills. Saturday his 15 kills came
on 34 swings with only four errors for the .324 hitting
percentage. He also tallied three block assists and ten digs in
the match.
The Bobcats took an early two set lead with convincing wins of
30-15 and 30-13, but Pfeiffer rallied in set three to win 30-25 to
force the fourth set. In the fourth set, Raphael Vieira's serving
clinched the 30-14 set four win and gave the Bobcats the match
win.
Following Mercado for the Bobcats was Robbie Rowe who had ten
kills on 17 swings with two errors for .471 hitting percentage.
Vieira added seven kills and .417 hitting percentage to go along
with six service aces and five digs. Juan Ramirez and Austin Belt
handed out 25 and 16 assists respectively for Lees-McRae. Steven
Bunning had four total blocks, and Kyle Gauger had ten digs.
For the Falcons, Kyle Mariano had seven kills and Eric Edelman
followed with six kills. Evan Fullerton had 21 assists, and Mark
Hess had 17 digs. Edelman also had five block assists in the
contest.
Lees-McRae will look to continue their streak when they travel
to Limestone for their next match on March 9th.
