DUE WEST, S.C. - Emily Guenthner notched a career best six goals
as the Lees-McRae College Lady Bobcats overcame a 10-5 halftime
deficit with 12 second half goals to win their first game of the
season 17-16 over the Erskine College Flying Fleet Thursday
afternoon.
With the win, the Bobcats improve to 1-5 overall and 1-1 in the
Conference.
Guenthner paced the Bobcats with six total points, and was
followed closely by Lauren Martin, who had five points on four
goals and an assist. Lexi King scored three goals, Jessica
MacConnell had two goals and Ellie Psillas and Abby White scored
one goal apiece in the win.
With the Bobcats up 5-3, the Flying Fleet closed out the first
half with seven consecutive goals to take a 10-5 lead into the
half. After the half Guenthner got the offense rolling with all
six of her goals coming in the period with her final goal coming at
the 3:35 mark to put the Lady Bobcats up 17-14. Erskine would
score the final two goals, Martha Peacock and the Lees-McRae
defense held on for the 17-16 win. Peacock had nine saves to earn
the win.
Lees-McRae outshot Erskine 43-27 and won the groundball battle
14-12. The two teams spilt the 34 draw controls 17 apiece.
The Lady Bobcats will take on Rollins College Saturday at noon
at Converse for their next game.
