BANNER ELK, N.C. - Morgan Achilles made 12 saves for the St.
Andrews Presbyterian Knights Tuesday afternoon in a Conference
Carolinas 17-5 win over the Lees-McRae College Lady Bobcats at Tate
Field.
Achilles turned away 12 of the 17 shots the Lady Bobcats, who
slip to 1-9 overall and 1-4 in the conference, put on goal to earn
the win for the Knights, who improve to 5-7 overall and 3-3 in the
conference.
The two teams traded goals in the first seven minutes of play
with Megan Jolley scoring the game's first goal for the Knights and
Emily Guenthner tied the one for the Lady Bobcats. From there, St.
Andrews took off on a 6-1 run to end the half with Jolley adding
three more goals. Lauren Martin scored the final goal of the half
for Lees-McRae to give the game the halftime score of 7-2.
In the second half, Kim McDaniel notched three straight goals to
give the Knights a 10-2 lead before Ellie Psillas and Jessica
MacConnell made it 10-4 with two goals for the Lady Bobcats. Again
the Knights would make a big run to end the half, this time they
ended the game with a 7-1 run to win 17-5.
Jolley and McDaniel each had seven points for the Knights.
Jolley had five goals and two assists, while McDaniel had four
goals and three assists. Jolley also had a team-high five
groundballs and three draw controls.
For Lees-McRae Guenther had three points with two goals and an
assist. Kari Borton collected six groundballs, and Psillas had
three draw controls.
Martha Peacock made ten saves between the pipes for the Lady
Bobcats.
Lees-McRae will turn around and return to action against Queens
on Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Tate Field.
