BANNER ELK, N.C. - The Pfeiffer University Falcons used a three
goal third period to claim a 10-8 win over the Lees-McRae College
Bobcats Tuesday night in a Conference Carolinas men's lacrosse game
at Tate Field.
With the win, Pfeiffer improves to 7-6 overall and 2-2 in the
conference, while Lees-McRae drops their sixth in a row and falls
to 3-6 overall and 0-4 in the conference.
Pfeiffer took an early 4-1 lead after the first quarter, but
Lees-McRae strung together their own 4-1 quarter to tie the game at
five at the half.
After the break, Pfeiffer took control of the game with a 3-1
third period. Lees-McRae pulled within one goal with the first
goal in the fourth period but Pfeiffer answered to push the lead
back two goals. Lees-McRae would cut the lead to one, but less
than a minute later Pfeiffer answered with the game's final goal to
earn the 10-8 win.
Brett Yusiewicz and Matt Markey led the Bobcats with two goals,
and Markey added two assists for a team-high four points. Derin
Vacca, Brandon Marks, Landon Guntman and Quinn Struble also notched
goals for the Bobcats. Jordan Shreiner had two assists, and Landon
Young and Vacca had one assists apiece. Andy Nesdill had seven
groundballs and Young, Vacca and Micheal LaSalle had four
groundballs.
For the Falcons, Chad Olsen had a game-high three goals and also
added one assist for four total points. Justin Rose and Kory Lutes
scored two gaols, and Dan Mesler, Derrick Ensor and Nick Berkompas
had one goal apiece. Ben Nielsen had a team-high two assists.
Kirby Upshaw collected a game-high six groundballs for the
Falcons.
Lees-McRae won 15 of the 22 face-offs with Vacca going 6-for-6,
and Dane Robinson going 7-for-11.
The Falcons outshot the Bobcats 46-21 and won the groundball
battle 41-31.
The Bobcats will have the next nine days off before playing
Queens on April 15th at Tate Field.
