BANNER ELK, N.C. --- Dana Oliver (Davie, Fla.)
recorded 21 digs, and three Lady Bobcats tallied at least 12 kills
to lead the Lees-McRae College women's volleyball team (7-6, 5-0
CC) to a 3-1 win over Limestone College (3-8, 1-3 CC) in Conference
Carolinas play on Friday night in Williams Gymnasium.
The Lady Bobcats won the match by scores of 25-15, 25-21, 22-25,
25-16 to remain atop the conference standings with a sterling 5-0
mark against league opponents. Lees-McRae posted a .231 hitting
percentage (54-23-134) while holding the Saints to a .049 clip
(30-24-122) on the attack.
Megan Epperson (St. John, Ind.) led the way for the Lady Bobcats
with a double-double, tallying a match-high 16 kills to go with 10
digs. Taylor Clendenin (Statesville, N.C.) chipped in 13 kills and
nine digs, while Whitney Justice (Connelly Springs, N.C.) turned in
12 kills. Megan Mitchell (Minden, Nev.) also recorded 41 assists in
the match.
Jordan Preville (East Lansing, Mich.) paced the Saints with 10
kills, while Kassi Boedeker (Phoenix, Ariz.) and Emmaleigh Halweg
(Peotone, Ill.) each tallied six kills. Danielle Seibert
(Napierville, Ill.) recorded 25 assists in the match, as Holli
Dawson (Beaufort, S.C.) and Rebecca Kerrison (Charleston, S.C.)
chipped in 18 and 12 digs, respectively.
The first set stayed tight until, with the score knotted at
10-10, Lees-McRae launched an 8-4 run to take an 18-14 lead on a
kill by Clendenin. The Lady Bobcats then closed out the set with a
7-1 spurt to take a 1-0 advantage in the match.
Lees-McRae continued to dictate the flow of the match into the
early moments of the second set, opening the frame with a 4-1 spurt
before the Saints went on a 3-1 run to cut the margin to 5-4. The
Saints would close the gap later in the set once again, evening the
score at 14-14 with a 5-1 spurt midway through the frame.
Lees-McRae would respond, launching an 11-7 run to close out the
25-21 second-set win and double its match lead to 2-0.
The Saints refused to quit, opening the third set with a 9-5 run
before the Lady Bobcats rallied to even the score at 9-9 with a 4-0
spurt, which including a pair of service aces by Jessica Singewald
(Port St. Lucie, Fla.). Limestone responded with a 4-2 spurt to
open a narrow 13-11 lead on a kill by Halweg, and after the Lady
Bobcats rallied to even the score on three occasions, went on a 3-0
run to open a 21-18 lead.
Lees-McRae would cut the lead to 21-20 with a 2-0 spurt, before
Limestone closed out the 25-22 third-set win with a 4-2 run to cut
the Lady Bobcats' match lead to 2-1. The Lady Bobcats responded by
opening the fourth set with a 6-1 spurt that included back-to-back
kills by Justice. Lees-McRae would continue to press, pushing the
lead to 14-8 before Limestone went on a 3-0 spurt to cut the margin
to 14-11. The Lady Bobcats would answer with a decisive 11-5 run to
close out the set and the match on a kill by Clendenin.
Lees-McRae returns to the court on Saturday when the Lady
Bobcats host Converse College to resume their conference slate. The
match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
