BRISTOL, Tenn. --- James Galvani (High Wycombe,
U.K.) scored two goals and tallied an assist to lead the Lees-McRae
College men's soccer team to a 3-1 win over King College on
Wednesday night.
Lees-McRae (7-2) notched its third straight win and seventh in
its last eight matches, as King (1-6-1) edged the Bobcats 17-16 in
shots on the night. Galvani led the way for the Bobcats, netting
his fourth and fifth goals of the season, including his first
match-winner of the campaign. Kyle Luterbach (Hickory, N.C.) added
his first goal of the campaign, while Lee Squires (Sheffield,
U.K.), Justin Jones (Jamestown, N.C.), and Jamie Bladen (Yorkshire,
U.K.) each recorded an assist.
Luterbach opened the scoring late in the 32nd minute, taking a
cross from Galvani off a throw in by Jones to send the Bobcats into
the interval with a 1-0 lead. Galvani netted the eventual
match-winner in the closing seconds of the 53rd minute, delivering
a strike into the back of the net off a cross from Squires to push
the lead to 2-0.
King cut the margin to 2-1 midway through the 67th minute on a
penalty kick from Tom Winspear (Yarm, U.K.), before Galvani netted
his second goal of the match in the 75th minute off a cross from
Bladen to equal the final margin of 3-1.
Lees-McRae returns to the pitch on Saturday when the Bobcats
host Pfeiffer University to resume their Conference Carolinas
schedule. The match is slated for 4:30 p.m. at Tate Field.
