DUE WEST, S.C. --- The Erskine College men's
basketball team outscored Lees-McRae College by a 21-10 margin down
the stretch en route to a 61-54 win in Conference Carolinas action
on Wednesday night.
Lees-McRae (3-10, 0-6 CC) posted a 45.2 percent clip from the
floor, including a 52.6 percent mark in the second half, while
holding the Flying Fleet (2-9, 1-5 CC) to a 37.3 percent clip from
the field. The Bobcats edged Erskine by a 31-30 margin on the
glass, including a 24-21 advantage on the defensive boards.
Daniel Sepokas (Illawong, Australia) poured in a game-high 14
points, converting 8-of-8 attempts at the free throw line while
recording a team-high three assists. Tevin Friday (Gastonia, N.C.),
Adam McFerran (Stow, Ohio), and Sam Youse (Winston-Salem, N.C.)
each tallied eight points, while DeAndre Tillman (Charlotte, N.C.)
posted a game-high seven rebounds.
Filip Pejovic (Prijepolje, Serbia) equaled Sepokas' game-high 14
points while also pulling down a contest-best seven rebounds.
DeShaun Hall (Inman, S.C.) chipped in 11 points and four rebounds,
while Chris Gore (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) added a game-high four
assists.
Erskine took an early 10-4 lead on a triple by Travis Liner
(Charlotte, N.C.) before Lees-McRae responded, countering with a
9-0 run to claim a 13-10 advantage on a free throw by Youse at the
8:38 mark. Neither team would hold more than a three-point lead for
the remainder of the half, with the Bobcats taking a narrow 26-25
advantage into the intermission.
The Flying Fleet would stay within striking distance for much of
the second half, launching a 17-7 run over a four minute span to
take a 57-51 lead on a free throw by Pejovic with 1:05 to play.
Erskine then closed out the win with a 4-3 edge over the final
minute to claim the 61-54 victory.
The Bobcats return to the court on Saturday when they travel to
Hartsville, S.C. to take on Coker College at 4 p.m.
