HARRISBURG, Va. --- The Lees-McRae College
men's volleyball posted a pair of three-set victories on the first
day of the Hampton Inn & Sleep Inn D-II/D-III Classic on the
campus of Eastern Mennonite University, sweeping Kean University
and Lancaster Bible College in straight sets.
Lees-McRae (2-1) posted a pair of stellar hitting percentages in
each match, attacking at a .393 (35-11-61) clip against Kean and
recording a .486 (45-9-74) mark against Lancaster Bible. Chad
Mercado (Orlando, Fla.) led the way for the Bobcats with 21 kills
on 29 attempts to post a blistering .621 attack percentage.
John Lucas (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Matt Harpenau (Cincinnati,
Ohio) recorded 10 and nine kills, respectively, while freshman
setter Randy Ramirez (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) posted 61 assists on
the day. Harpenau also paced the Bobcats with four blocks, while
Mercado and Chris Flood (Louisville, Ky.) each chipped in three
stuffs.
Lees-McRae returns to the court on Saturday against City College
of New York and Medaille College on the second day of the
D-II/D-III Classic. The matches are slated for noon and 2 p.m.,
respectively.
