HARRISBURG, Va. --- The Lees-McRae College
men's volleyball team split a pair of matches on the final day of
the Hampton Inn & Sleep Inn D-II/D-III Classic on the campus of
Eastern Mennonite University, sweeping City College of New York and
falling to Medaille College in four sets.
Lees-McRae (3-2) defeated CCNY by scores of 25-18, 25-12, and
25-9, before falling to Medaille by scores of 11-25, 22-25, 25-22,
and 20-25. The Bobcats posted hitting percentages of .379 against
CCNY and .056 against Medaille.
Chad Mercado (Orlando, Fla.) led the Bobcats with 27 kills and a
.300 hitting percentage, posting 18 critical attacks against
Medaille. Matt Harpenau (Cincinnati, Ohio) and John Lucas
(Cincinnati, Ohio) recorded 10 and nine kills, respectively, while
Randy Ramirez (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) posted 64 assists, including
39 helpers against Medaille.
Ramirez also paced the Bobcats with four service aces, while
tying Mercado for the team-lead with eight digs. Lucas recorded a
team-best seven blocks, as Chris Flood (Louisville, Ky.) chipped in
six stuffs.
Lees-McRae returns to the court next Friday when the Bobcats
travel to Phoenix, Ariz. to take on Grand Canyon University and
Carthage College at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively.
