LAURINBURG, N.C. --- The Lees-McRae College
women's volleyball team clinched at least a share of its 13th
Conference Carolinas regular season championship on Saturday
afternoon in conference play, sweeping St. Andrews University in
straight sets.
Lees-McRae (22-8, 16-0 CC) won the match by scores of 25-16,
25-9, and 25-7, holding St. Andrews (2-28, 0-15 CC) to a .013
hitting percentage while attacking at a .352 clip of its own. With
the win, the Bobcats extended their conference winning streak to 47
straight matches.
Taylor Clendenin (Statesville, N.C.) paced the Bobcats with nine
kills and no errors on 15 swings to post a .600 hitting percentage,
while Megan Epperson (St. John, Ind.) chipped in eight kills to
become the first player in program history to breach the 1,400-kill
plateau. Jessica Singewald (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) and Lauren Fox
(Garland, Texas) added seven and six kills, respectively, as
Epperson posted nine digs to move within one saver to tying the
program's all-time record.
Sariah Suryadevara (Cincinnati, Ohio) posted a match-high 18
digs, as Clendenin and Taylor Pritchett (Apex, N.C.) dug out eight
and seven Knight attacks, respectively. Megan Mitchell (Minden,
Nev.) added a match-high 23 assists, as Pritchett chipped in 11
helpers. Epperson also posted a match-high three service aces.
Celia Duggan paced St. Andrews with five kills and .357 hitting
percentage, as Ashleigh Fritter and Allie Garland each posted a
team-high nine digs. Ruka Akolade also added eight digs.
Lees-McRae returns to the court on Wednesday when the Bobcats
travel to Belmont, N.C. to take on Belmont Abbey College in a
conference matchup at 7 p.m.
