GAFFNEY, S.C. --- Megan Epperson (St. John,
Ind.) tallied a match-high 12 kills and a blistering .455 hitting
percentage to lead the Lees-McRae College women's volleyball team
to a straight-set win over Limestone College in Conference
Carolinas play on Wednesday night.
Lees-McRae (13-6, 8-0 CC) ran its win streak to 11 matches
overall and 39 in conference play, posting a .252 hitting
percentage while holding Limestone (9-9, 6-3 CC) to a .032 clip on
the attack. Epperson continued her strong play for the Bobcats with
12 kills and a .455 hitting percentage on 22 swings, while Dana
Oliver (Davie, Fla.) and Taylor Clendenin (Statesville, N.C.) each
chipped in nine kills. Megan Mitchell (Minden, Nev.) posted a
match-high 34 assists, as Sariah Suryadevara (Cincinnati, Ohio)
posted a contest-best 14 digs and two service aces. Jessica
Singewald (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) also chipped in three blocks.
Emmaleigh Halweg paced the Saints with six kills, as Brittany
Henderson and Jordan Preville each tallied five smashes. Danielle
Seibert added 22 assists, while Holli Dawson, Seibert, and Preville
posted 12, nine, and eight digs, respectively.
The first set proved to be a tightly contested affair, as
neither team claimed more than a two-point advantage until the
Bobcats took control midway through the frame, launching a 6-0 run
to open a 13-9 margin on a kill by Epperson. Lees-McRae would hold
the lead for the remainder of the set, closing out the frame on a
Surydevara ace to cap a 9-3 run.
The Bobcats carried the momentum into the second set, opening a
12-8 lead on an Epperson kill before Limestone responded, launching
a 9-5 run to even the score at 17-17 on a Preville smash. After the
teams traded points to keep the scoreboard even at 18-18, the
Bobcats went on a 7-2 run to close out the set on a block by
Singewald and Oliver to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the
match.
Lees-McRae continued to dictate play in the third set, taking an
early 11-4 lead on a service ace by Taylor Pritchett (Apex, N.C.).
The Bobcats maintained the comfortable margin throughout the
remainder of the frame, taking a 23-15 lead before closing out the
set and the match on a kill by Lauren Fox (Garland, Texas).
The Bobcats return to the court on Friday when they host
Converse College in a conference matchup at 7 p.m. in Williams
Gymnasium.
