SPARTANBURG, S.C. --- Kaitlyn Kerrigan
(Lakewood Ranch, Fla.) tallied two assists as four different
players found the back of the net to lead the Lees-McRae College
women's soccer team to a 4-0 win over Converse College in
Conference Carolinas play on Thursday night.
Lees-McRae (7-2-1, 6-0 CC) outshot Converse (0-10-1, 0-6 CC) by
a 45-2 margin, including a 28-0 advantage in the first half, as the
Bobcats have now outscored their opponents by a 32-2 tally in
conference play so far this season.
Mary Dorn (Shallotte, N.C.), Brooke Santerre (Port Republic,
Md.), MaryBeth Sullivan (Greensboro, N.C.), and Lauren Griffin
(Kernersville, N.C.) each found the back of the net for the
Bobcats, as Kerrigan and Santerre posted two and one assists,
respectively. Kaitlyn Briggs (Oviedo, Fla.) played the full 90
minutes between the pipes for LMC, making one save en route to her
sixth clean sheet of the season.
Katie Wasylko logged the full 90 minutes in goal for Converse,
making 20 saves. Lisa Ryan and Sydnie Hickey each made an attempt
on goal.
Sullivan opened the scoring midway through the 12th minute,
taking a through ball from Santerre and beating the keeper for her
team-leading eighth goal of the season. The Bobcats carried the
narrow 1-0 margin into the second half, before Dorn doubled the
advantage to 2-0 in the 55th minute with a header off a corner from
Kerrigan.
Santerre pushed the margin to 3-0 in the closing moments of the
64th minute, finishing a rebound off a shot from Kerrigan. Griffin
capped the scoring midway through the 84th minute, scoring her
first career goal to equal the final margin of 4-0 with a brilliant
strike to the upper 90 from 30 yards distance.
Lees-McRae returns to the pitch on Saturday when the Bobcats
host Queens University of Charlotte in a conference matchup at 5
p.m. on Tate Field. The Bobcats will host Kick for the Cure day at
Tate Field on Saturday to raise money for breast cancer awareness,
auctioning off a pink LMC soccer jersey and a ball autographed by
the team.
