BOONE, N.C. --- Four players scored in double figures to lead the Appalachian State University men's basketball team to a season-opening 90-61 win over Lees-McRae College on Friday night in the Holmes Center.

ASU (1-0) shot 40.8 percent from the floor on the evening, while holding Lees-McRae (0-1) to a 30.8 percent clip overall as the Bobcats shot 40.6 percent from the field in the second half. The Mountaineers edged the Bobcats on the glass by a 53-44 margin, including a 20-14 advantage on the offensive boards, while converting 23 LMC miscues into 23 points.

Freshman Asad Lamot (Mebane, N.C.) paced the Bobcats with 14 points, while Jeremiah Henry (Semmes, Ala.) turned in a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. BJ Battle (Orlando, Fla.) and Will Lopez (Sydney, Australia) chipped in seven and six points, respectively, while Lamot added six rebounds.

Andre Williamson led the way for ASU with a double-double, recording game-highs of 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Omar Carter added 15 markers on 6-of-12 shooting. Jamaal Trice and Tab Hamilton each chipped in 10 points, as Carter and Nathan Healy both added eight rebounds. Mitch Woods also added a game-high seven assists for the Mountaineers, as Carter and Mike Neal each chipped in a contest-best four steals.

The Mountaineers got off to a strong start in the first half, taking an early 16-7 lead on a layup by Carter before pushing the lead to 31-11 on a Trice jumper at the 6:55 mark. After the Bobcats trimmed the margin to 32-18 on a freebie by Chad Eppley (Boone, N.C.) at the 3:34 mark, ASU closed out the half with a 14-3 surge to take a 46-21 lead into the intermission.

ASU carried the momentum into the second half, pushing the margin to 60-28 on a Williamson jumper before the Bobcats responded with a 10-1 run to close the gap to 61-38 on a put back by Juan Urbina (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) at the 13:26 mark. The Bobcats would hang with the Mountaineers for the remainder of the game, answering nearly every ASU score with one of their own down the stretch.

Lees-McRae returns to the court on Monday when the Bobcats host Mars Hill College in their home opener at 7 p.m. in Williams Gymnasium.
