CHARLOTTE, N.C. --- Sondre Thorbergsen (Tranoy,
Norway) paced the Lees-McRae College men's cross country team at
the NCAA Division II Southeast Region Championships on Saturday,
turning in a 25th-place performance to earn all-region honors.
Queens University of Charlotte took home the team title with 62
points, followed by Mount Olive College (82), King College (114),
Mars Hill College (121) and University of North Carolina at
Pembroke (123). Anderson University and Augusta State University
finished tied for sixth with 207 points each, as Columbus State
University (217), Clayton State University (304), and Lenoir-Rhyne
University (310) rounded out the top 10.
Thorbergsen paced the Bobcats with a time of 32:59.8, as Craig
Simpkins (Boiling Springs, S.C.) and Tyler Dunn (Jasper, Ga.)
finished 31st and 43rd with marks of 33:05.1 and 33:19.6,
respectively. Trevor Morris (Southern Pines, N.C.), Jordan Meyer
(Inman, S.C.), and Avery Mouton (Sneads Ferry, N.C.) turned in
times of 38:31.2, 38:42.5, and 42:11.3, respectively.
"I am extremely proud of our top three runners," said head coach
Thomas Cason. "Sondre, Craig, and Tyler ran great together and
really finished the season on a high note."
Lees-McRae is expected to return six runners from this year's
squad, including rising seniors Dunn (Jasper, Ga.), Connor Gray
(Christiansburg, Va.), and Jared Lupton (Nampa, Idaho).
