BANNER ELK, N.C. --- The fourth-ranked
Limestone College men's lacrosse team outscored Lees-McRae College
by a 15-2 margin in the second half en route to a 28-5 victory to
open Conference Carolinas play.
Limestone (1-0, 1-0 CC) out-shot the Bobcats (0-1, 0-1 CC) by a
54-17 margin, including a 42-13 advantage in attempts on goal, as
goalkeeper Mike Fahey (Buffalo, N.Y.) recorded 11 saves for
Lees-McRae. Josh Shingleton (Temcula, Calif.) paced the Bobcats
with two goals and one assist, while Danny Ives (Cheadle, Cheshire,
England) and Kyle Ficken (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) each added a score
and a helper.
Riley Loewen (Burnaby, British Columbia) and Jeff Santo
(Timonium, Md.) both tallied four goals for Limestone, as Sam
Buppert (Eldersburg, Md.), Thomas Langan (Potomac, Md.) and Matt
Burke (Pasadena, Md.) each recorded a trio of scores. Will Swank
(Roswell, Ga.) and Randy Waugh (Severna Park, Md.) each posted two
goals as Shayne Jackson (Bowmanville, Ontario) notched six assists
on the day.
Limestone opened the scoring at the 10:34 mark of the first
period on Buppert's first goal of the contest following an assist
from Jackson. Ives evened the tally three minutes later, beating
the Saint goalie after a skillful dish by Shingleton to knot the
score at 1-1. Loewen scored the next two goals to give the Saints a
3-1 lead, before LMC's Quinn Struble (Durham, N.C.) netted his
first of the season to cut the margin to 3-2.
The Saints tallied the next two goals to push the lead to 5-2,
and after Ficken cut the margin to 5-3 with a power play goal,
Limestone closed the half with eight straight goals to take a 13-3
advantage into the break. Limestone then tallied the first 13 goals
of the second half to put the game out of reach en route to the
28-5 victory.
Lees-McRae returns to action on Saturday when the Bobcats travel
to Charlottesville, Va. to take on Chestnut Hill College in a
neutral site contest. The game is slated to begin at 4 p.m.
