CHARLOTTE, N.C. --- The Queens University of
Charlotte women's lacrosse team outscored Lees-McRae College by a
12-2 margin in the first en route to a 21-3 victory on Sunday
afternoon in the Bobcats' season and Conference Carolinas
opener.
Queens (2-0, 1-0 CC) posted a 46-8 margin in shots and a 41-20
advantage in ground balls, while forcing 24 Bobcat (0-1, 0-1 CC)
miscues and controlling 20 of the game's 26 draws. Brittany Philip
(Corning, N.Y.), Emily Balmer (Damascus, Md.) and Paige Fisher
(Schwenksville, Pa.) each tallied three goals for the Royals, as
Philip and Shannon Casey (Bel Air, Md.) each notched a pair of
assists. Chelsea Lancashire (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) made two
saves for Queens while playing the full 60 minutes between the
pipes.
LMC's Ellie Psillas (Hagerstown, Md.) notched a pair of scores for
the Bobcats as Laura Hawthrone (Winter Garden, Fla.) also tallied a
score for Lees-McRae. Taylor Moody (Woodstock, Ga.) posted 11 stops
for LMC in 60 minutes of play in goal.
Queens opened the scoring with eight consecutive goals in the
first, including each of Philip's three tallies, before Psillas
netted her first score of the match 18:37 into the contest to cut
the margin to 8-1. The Royals answered with a trio of scores before
Hawthorne converted a free position attempt to trim the lead to
11-2.
After closing the first half with a Balmer tally, the Royals
opened the second period with four goals in the initial eight
minutes of the frame to put the game out of reach. Psillas capped
the day's scoring with a power play goal with 26 ticks left on the
clock.
Lees-McRae returns to action on Saturday when the Bobcats travel
to Rocky Mountain, N.C. to take on North Carolina Wesleyan at 1
p.m.
