BANNER ELK, N.C. --- Liam Kyle (Cleveland,
Ohio) posted a double-double with 15 points and a game-high 11
rebounds to lead the Coker College men's basketball team to a 69-56
win over Lees-McRae College on Saturday evening in Conference
Carolinas play on Senior Day in Williams Gymnasium.
Coker (12-13, 10-8 CC) posted a field goal percentage of 43.6
percent on the night, including a 48.1 percent clip in the first
half, while limiting the Bobcats (6-20, 2-16 CC) to a 37.7 percent
mark for the game. The Bobcats won the battle on the glass by a
40-34 margin, including a 13-6 advantage on the offensive boards,
while Coker converted 18 Lees-McRae miscues into 24 points.
Adam McFerran (Stow, Ohio) poured in a game-high 17 points in
his final game as a Bobcat, knocking down 8-of-12 attempts from the
floor to conclude his career with 1,128 points, including 652
markers over the past two seasons with Lees-McRae.
Fellow senior Sam Youse (Winston-Salem, N.C.) added seven points
for the Bobcats, as McFerran and DeAndre Tillman (Charlotte, N.C.)
each posted a team-high seven rebounds. Tillman also tallied a
game-high two blocks to finish the campaign tied for fifth on the
program's single-season rejections list with 32 stuffs.
Kyle and Tom Wright (Sydney, Australia) paced the Cobras with 15
points each, while Delonte Doles (Roswell, Ga.) and Vatrick
Thompson (West Columbia, S.C.) both added 12 markers for Coker.
Doles also posted a team-best three assists, while Joselle Bracy
(Ruby, S.C.) chipped in a game-high four steals.
Neither team held more than a five-point advantage throughout
the first half, with Lees-McRae opening its largest lead of the
game at 17-12 on a jumper by Gerry Hairston (Winston-Salem, N.C.)
at the 11:14 mark. Coker battled back, taking a 23-22 lead on a
pair of Kyle free throws before pushing the margin to 29-24 on a
Bracy jumper with 3:27 to play in the half. Lees-McRae then cut the
lead to 33-31 on a Youse triple with 1:51 left on the clock.
Coker opened the second half with a 7-2 run, pushing the lead to
40-33 on a pair of Doles free throws at the 17:21 mark. The Cobras
would hold the advantage for the remainder of the game, widening
the margin to 58-41 on a Wright triple with 6:04 to play. After the
Cobras pushed the lead to 68-48 on a Wright layup at the 2:06 mark,
the Bobcat seniors battled back over the final two minutes,
equaling the final margin of 69-56 on a last-second triple by
Hairston.
Lees-McRae is expected to return eight lettermen from this
season's squad, including rising junior Daniel Sepokas (Illawong,
Australia) and rising sophomores Hairston, Tillman, Will Lopez
(Sydney, Australia) and Matt Eller (Lake Norman, N.C.).
