CHARLOTTE, N.C. --- Daniel Sepokas (Illawong,
Austrailia) and Dairl Scott, Jr. (Pfafftown, N.C.) each tallied 12
points to pace the Lees-McRae College men's basketball team to a
79-44 victory over Johnson and Wales University on Saturday
evening.
Sam Youse (Winston-Salem, N.C.) added ten points for the Bobcats
(5-13) as he connected on two of three attempts from beyond the
arc. Leading the Wildcats (0-23) was Rodrick Latimer (Columbia,
S.C.) with a game-high 13 points.
Lees-McRae controlled the pace for the duration of the game,
taking advantage of the opening tip-off and recording the contest's
first basketball when Gerry Hairston (Winston-Salem, N.C.)
intercepted a Wildcat inbound pass and drove down the floor for the
lay-in.
The Bobcats extended the lead to 15-3 with 11:30 remaining in
the opening half when Youse netted the first of his two triples.
Lees-McRae then pushed the margin to 22-5 two minutes later
following a pair from the charity stripe by Jeremiah Henry (Semmes,
Ala.). As the opening half wound down, the Bobcats continued to
battle, taking a 38-22 advantage into the intermission.
In the second half, the Bobcats continued to dominate the glass,
posting a 49-29 advantage on the boards for the game. The Bobcats
also put together their best half of the year from the free-throw
line, shooting 100 percent from the stripe by converting each of
their 15 attempts in the stanza.
Lees-McRae returns to the hardwood on Monday when the Bobcats
travel back to Charlotte to take on Queens University of Charlotte
in a Conference Carolinas matchup at 7:30 p.m. The Royals won the
teams' first meeting of the season by a 70-44 margin on Jan. 6.
