BANNER ELK, N.C. --- Lindsey Huntsinger
(Asheville, N.C.) went 3-for-5 at the plate with a home run and two
runs scored to pace Lees-McRae College to a split with Limestone
College in Conference Carolinas' softball action on Thursday.
Magen West (Whitney, Texas) grabbed the victory for the Bobcats
(14-19, 2-2 CC) in game two, throwing five strong innings and
allowing no earned runs, while Hollie Crickenberger (Boydton, Va.)
picked up her first save of the season, closing out the contest
allowing one hit in two innings of work.
Emily Wallace (Winchester, Ky.) picked up the victory in game
one for the Saints (13-23-1, 4-2 CC), pitching five strong innings,
facing the minimum and allowing just one hit to earn the victory.
Hannah Mills (Richmond, Va.) tallied the big blow for the Saints in
the opener, launching a two-run home run in the third to pace
Limestone to victory.
Game One: Limestone 3, Lees-McRae 0 (Box Score)
The Saints opened scoring in the top of the third inning when
Jordan Smith (Goose Creek, S.C.) laced a single into centerfield,
and Mills followed two batters later with a two-run shot to center
to give Limestone a 2-0 advantage.
The Bobcats threatened in the sixth as Alison Armstrong
(Bellingham, Mass.) reached first on an error and moved to second
on a sacrifice bunt to third by Karli Robb (Hayes, Va.). Shelby
Webb (Hillard, Fla.) then closed the door on the Bobcat sixth with
a strike-out followed by a line-out to end the inning. Webb closed
the contest with two innings pitched, shutting down the Bobcats to
earn the save for the Saints.
Game Two: Lees-McRae 7, Limestone 4 (Box Score)
The Saints opened game two with four runs in the top of the
first inning, taking advantage of four Bobcat errors to take a
quick 4-0 lead. The Bobcats responded in the bottom half of the
inning, sending ten to the plate and scoring five to take a 5-4
lead after the opening frame.
Kierstie Moon (Oxford, Ga.) and Robb opened the inning with
walks and Huntsinger loaded the bases, beating out a dribbler to
third to bring up Paige Coleman (Thomasville, N.C.). Coleman and
Kim Coley (Marion, N.C.) then plated two runs to cut the Saint
advantage in half with no outs. Huntsinger scored on an error to
trim the margin to 4-3 and following an out, Kayla Blackburn
(Miller's Creek, N.C.) lined a single into right field to give the
Bobcats a 5-4 lead.
The Bobcats added a sixth run in the home half of the second
when Huntsinger blasted a 2-1 pitch over the left field fence for
her eighth home run of the season. Moon added the final run,
scoring on an error in the fourth to equal the final tally of
7-4.
The Bobcats return to the diamond on Saturday, March 26,
traveling to Laurinburg, N.C. to take on St. Andrews Presbyterian
College in Conference Carolinas action. Game time in Laurinburg is
slated for 2 p.m. The Bobcats return home on Sunday, slated to
host Pfeiffer University in conference action with play beginning
at 2 p.m. at the Bobcat Softball Field.
