BANNER ELK, N.C. --- The Lees-McRae College
women's tennis team won two of three matches in doubles play, and
closed out singles action with four straight wins en route to a
pivotal 6-3 victory over Limestone College on Sunday afternoon in
Conference Carolinas play.
Limestone's (1-18, 1-7 CC) Eve Aubry and Jimena Munoz Quiroga
opened doubles play with an 8-4 victory over Lees-McRae's (2-6, 2-3
CC) Christine Vanard (Winston-Salem, N.C.) and Maria Andrade
(Middle Village, N.Y.). Lyndsay Peagram (Greensboro, N.C.) and
Kelsey Hiatt (Mount Airy, N.C.) answered with an 8-0 victory
against Krystal Barker and Nicole Jones, before Raven Harris (St.
Pauls, N.C.) and Renee Roberson (Salisbury, N.C.) defeated Jenny
Naven and Bea Nicholas to give LMC a 2-1 advantage.
Quiroga evened the match for the Saints with a hard-fought 3-6,
6-2, 6-0 victory over Vanard before Aubry gave Limestone a 3-2
advantage with a 6-2, 6-2 win against Peagram. Andrade kick-started
the rally for the Bobcats at No. 3 singles, registering a 6-1, 6-0
win over Barker before Hiatt defeated Naven, 6-0, 6-1 in the fourth
flight. Roberson delivered the deciding point in the fifth flight,
earning a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Jones before Harris capped the day
with a 6-4, 6-1 victory against Nicholas.
Lees-McRae returns to the courts on Tuesday when the Bobcats
host Converse College to resume their conference schedule. Play is
slated to begin at 3:30 p.m.
