BANNER ELK, N.C. --- The Queens University of
Charlotte women's tennis team swept doubles play, and won five of
the six singles matchups en route to an 8-1 victory over Lees-McRae
College in Conference Carolinas action on Wednesday afternoon.
Queens' (11-3, 6-1 CC) Erin Williams and Christina Rustscheff
opened doubles play with an 8-1 victory over Lees-McRae's (2-7, 2-4
CC) Christine Vanard (Winston-Salem, N.C.) and Maria Andrade
(Middle Village, N.Y.). Amanda Poole and Hewit Hawn then defeated
Lyndsay Peagram (Greensboro, N.C.) and Kelsey Hiatt (Mount Airy,
N.C.) by an 8-1 margin, before Morgan Roberts and Kaitlyn Blakely
won their third-flight match against Raven Harris (St. Pauls, N.C.)
and Renee Roberson (Salisbury, N.C.) by a score of 8-4.
Rustscheff kicked off singles play with a 6-4, 6-2 victory
against Vanard, giving the Royals a 4-0 lead before Peagram rallied
for a 1-6, 6-4, 10-8 win over Williams in the second flight.
Roberts delivered the deciding point for Queens at the No. 3
matchup, defeating Andrade, 6-1, 6-0. Poole then knocked off Hiatt,
6-1, 6-1, before Gilliam McLinden defeated Roberson, 6-2, 6-1.
Blakely closed out the day with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Harris.
Lees-McRae returns to the courts on Saturday when the Bobcats
host Erskine College in a conference matchup at 12 p.m.
