SPARTANBURG, S.C. --- The Converse College
women's lacrosse team outscored Lees-McRae College by a 10-4 margin
in the second half en route to a 22-13 victory in Conference
Carolinas play on Saturday afternoon.
Converse (3-13, 1-5 CC) outshot the Bobcats (2-9, 0-6 CC) by a
58-23 margin, including a 32-7 advantage in the second half, while
holding a 46-38 edge in ground balls. The Valkyries converted
20-of-21 clear attempts on the day, while Lees-McRae was successful
on 19-of-26 clearing chances.
Emily Guenthner (Nampa, Idaho), Katelin Rooney (Naples, Fla.)
and Ellie Psillas (Hagerstown, Md.) each posted a hat trick for the
Bobcats, while Olivia Gudewich (Frederick, Md.) tallied two goals.
Lexi King (Woodstock, Ga.) and Amanda Harkness (Johnson City, N.Y.)
each recorded a goal, while Guenthner, King, and Rooney all posted
one assist. Taylor Moody (Woodstock, Ga.) kept the Bobcats in the
game between the pipes, recording a season- and career-high 24
saves.
Lacey Bevilacqua paced the Valkyries with six goals, while
Brooke Bondurant posted a hat trick. Brianna Hoffman, Alyssa
Savitz, Page Fortuna, and Cassie Fara each tallied two goals, while
Hoffman and Savitz posted three and two assists, respectively.
Tabitha Chamblee picked up the win in goal, tallying six saves
through the first 56 minutes of play.
The Bobcats opened the game with three straight goals by Rooney,
Harkness, and King, before Converse answered with a pair of tallies
to cut the margin to 3-2. Gudewich and Rooney scored two of the
game's next three goals to push the lead to 5-3, before Converse
countered with four straight goals to claim a 7-5 lead.
Psillas and Rooney answered with back-to-back goals for the
Bobcats, evening the tally at 7-7 on Rooney's third tally of the
game at the 6:50 mark of the first half. After Converse answered
with two goals and the Bobcats countered with Gudewich's second,
the Valkyries tallied three of the half's final four strikes to
take a 12-9 lead into the intermission.
Converse carried the momentum into the second half, opening the
period with four goals in the first 12 and a half minutes to push
the margin to 16-10. After Psillas completed her hat trick at the
17:25 mark, Bevilacqua scored three of the next four goals to cap
her day's scoring. Guenthner then tallied the Bobcats' final two
goals in the last 10 minutes of play, including her third at the
2:19 mark.
Lees-McRae returns to action on Monday when the Bobcats host
Erskine College in conference play at Tate Field. Play is slated to
begin at 5 p.m.
