SPARTANBURG, S.C. --- The Lees-McRae College
men's cross country team turned in a solid 11th-place performance
at the Eye Opener Cross Country Festival on Friday, which was
hosted by the University of South Carolina-Upstate.
Junior transfer Tyler Dunn paced the Bobcats with a 34th-place
performance, turning in a time of 27:31, while senior Craig
Simpkins (Boiling Springs, S.C.) finished 38th with a time of
27:40.
"It was great to get our first race of the season under our
belt," said head coach Thomas Cason. "We have a lot of hard work
ahead of us, and I look forward to watching us get better every
week."
The Bobcat women's team finished ninth out of 20 teams, led by
freshmen twins Emily Shields (Salisbury, N.C.) and Katherine
Shields (Salisbury, N.C.), who finished 28th and 33rd,
respectively. Emily Shields turned in a time of 19:55, while her
sister Katherine posted a time of 20:05.
Lees-McRae returns to the trails on Saturday, September 10 when
the Bobcats travel to Hickory, N.C. to take part in the
Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational.
