TIGERVILLE, S.C. --- Megan Epperson (St. John,
Ind.) tallied a season-high 20 kills to lead the Lees-McRae College
women's volleyball team to a straight set victory over North
Greenville University on Friday night in Conference Carolinas
action.
Lees-McRae (9-6, 5-0 CC) won the match by scores of 25-18,
25-19, and 25-10, while holding North Greenville (6-8, 0-4 CC) to a
.132 hitting percentage. The Bobcats posted a .270 hitting
percentage on the night, while tallying nine service aces and four
blocks.
Epperson paced the Bobcats with 20 kills and a .351 hitting
percentage, while Dana Oliver (Davie, Fla.) chipped in a
double-double with 12 kills and 12 digs. Sariah Suryadevara
(Cincinnati, Ohio) posted a match-high 18 digs, while Megan
Mitchell (Minden, Nev.) added a contest-best 39 assists.
Rebakah Mayes led the way for North Greenville with eight kills,
while Kaitlyn Pierce chipped in six smashes. Abigail Frame chipped
in 16 assists, while Kaitlyn Harris added a team-high 11 digs.
Lees-McRae jumped out to an early 14-8 lead in the first set
before North Greenville responded, launching a 6-0 run to even the
tally at 14-14 on a service ace by Lauren Burns. The Bobcats
answered with a 6-1 spurt, claiming a 20-15 advantage on an Oliver
kill. Lees-McRae then closed out the set with a 5-3 run to claim a
1-0 lead in the match on a Taylor Clendenin (Statesville, N.C.)
kill.
The Bobcats carried the momentum into the second set, claiming a
10-4 lead on a kill by Lauren Fox (Garland, Texas) to force a North
Greenville timeout. North Greenville answered with a 10-5 run,
trimming the lead to 15-14 on back-to-back Bobcat errors. The
Bobcats responded with an 8-2 run, claiming a 23-16 lead on a
Mitchell kill before closing out the set on an Epperson smash.
The third set proved to be a tightly-contested affair, with
neither team claiming more than a three-point lead until the
Bobcats went on a 4-1 run to take a 13-8 advantage on an Oliver
kill. North Greenville stayed within striking distance for the
remainder of the set, cutting the lead to 23-20 on a Bobcat error
before Lees-McRae responded, closing out the set and the match on
back-to-back kills from Clendenin and Fox.
Lees-McRae returns to the court on Saturday when the Bobcats
travel to King College for a conference matchup at 2 p.m.
