MARS HILL, N.C. --- The Mars Hill College men's
lacrosse team held visiting Lees-McRae College scoreless into the
fourth quarter en route to a 12-3 victory in non-conference play on
Tuesday afternoon.
Mars Hill (2-0) outshot Lees-McRae (0-2) by a 56-20 margin,
including a 31-10 advantage in the first half, while winning the
ground ball battle, 56-26. Taylor Thilo paced the Lions with three
goals and one assist, while Dan Applebaum and T.J. Cowx each
tallied two goals. Applebaum and Tyler Wilcox both posted a pair of
assists on the afternoon. Dylan Price made 13 saves in goal for the
Lions.
Danny Ives (Cheadle, Cheshire, England) tallied two goals and
one assist to lead the way for Lees-McRae, as Josh Shingleton
(Temecula, Calif.) also found the back of the net for the Bobcats.
Ryan Harrison (Lake Mary, Fla.) recorded 25 saves between the pipes
for Lees-McRae.
Mars Hill jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first half, tallying a
trio of goals in each of the first two periods. Jamie Raezer got
the Lions on the board just over a minute into the game, as Cowx
gave MHC a 3-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. Thilo closed
out the second with a pair of goals to push the lead to 6-0, before
adding his third less than a minute into the third.
The Lions would stretch the margin to 10-0 heading into the
fourth before Ives got the Bobcats on the board, netting his third
goal of the season at the 13:35 mark. After the Lions answered with
a goal, Shingleton found the back of the net off a pass from Ives
at the 5:26 mark before Ives scored his second of the day with 11
seconds left.
Lees-McRae returns to action on Friday when the Bobcats host
Florida Institute of Technology in their home opener on Friday
afternoon at 4 p.m. on Tate Field.
