MISENHEIMER, N.C. --- Natalie Marvin recorded
four goals and three assists to lead the Pfeiffer University
women's lacrosse team to a 23-0 win over Lees-McRae College in
Conference Carolinas play on Wednesday afternoon.
Pfeiffer (1-0, 1-0 CC) outshot Lees-McRae (0-2, 0-2 CC) by a
31-4 margin, including a 22-2 advantage in the first half, while
controlling 15-of-25 draws and winning the ground ball battle by a
stretch of 24-8.
Marvin scored a game-high four goals for Pfeiffer, adding three
assists and four ground balls, as Shannon Bonnel posted two goals,
four helpers, and eight draw controls. Kristi Korn, Katherine
Athens, and Liz Melesh each chipped in three goals, as Rachel
Hebberd and Haley Gourdie both found the back of the net twice.
Jamie Alcala posted four saves between the pipes for the
Falcons.
Katelin Rooney (Naples, Fla.) paced the Bobcats with a
game-high eight draw controls, as Nicole Dupont (Fort Myers, Fla.)
added three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Rooney, Jessica
MacConnell (Cary, N.C.), Olivia Gudewich (Fredrick, Md.), and
Nicole Nixon (Charlotte, N.C.) each recorded a shot for the
Bobcats, as Jessica Travers (Asheville, N.C.) made three saves
between the pipes.
Pfeiffer got off to a strong start in the first half, opening a
7-0 lead in the first eight minutes of play as Melesh and Marvin
each scored three goals in the initial period. The Falcons would go
into the intermission on a high note, scoring five goals in the
final 10 minutes of the opening half. Pfeiffer added six goals in
the second half to equal the final margin.
Lees-McRae returns to action on Saturday when the Bobcats host
Converse College in conference play at 2 p.m. on Tate Field.
