BOONE, N.C. --- The Converse College women's
lacrosse team scored 11 goals in the first half en route to an 18-0
win over Lees-McRae College in Conference Carolinas play on
Saturday afternoon at Watauga High School.
Converse (1-0, 1-0 CC) outshot Lees-McRae (0-3, 0-3 CC) by a
43-4 margin, including a 22-3 advantage in the first half, while
winning the ground ball battle by a spread of 40-26. The Valkyries
converted 19-of-22 clear attempts, while controlling 11 draws.
Katelin Rooney (Naples, Fla.) paced the Bobcats with six draw
controls and three ground balls, as Jessica Travers (Asheville,
N.C.) posted a team-high seven ground balls on the day. Brittany
Bradley (Poulan, Ga.) added four grounders, as Nicole Dupont (Fort
Myers, Fla.) and Alexandra Smith (West Seneca, N.Y.) each tallied
three ground balls. Travers played the full 60 minutes between the
pipes, making 16 saves.
Jordy Taylor led the way for Converse with five goals and two
assists, as Sam Green added four strikes and Katie Wright and
Brianna Hoffman each tallied a hat trick. Aexandra Gurecki made
four saves for the Valkyries, as Courtney Cambra posted a game-high
seven ground balls.
Converse got off to a strong start, opening a 5-0 lead in the
first ten minutes of the contest before pushing the margin to 11-0
heading into the intermission. The Valkyries would add several late
goals in the second half to equal the final margin of 18-0.
Lees-McRae returns to action on Tuesday when the Bobcats host
Florida Southern College at 5 p.m. on Tate Field.
