BANNER ELK, N.C. --- The Queens University of
Charlotte women's lacrosse team outscored Lees-McRae College by a
10-0 margin in the first half en route to a 17-1 win on Saturday
afternoon in Conference Carolinas play on Tate Field.
Queens (5-7, 2-2 CC) outshot Lees-McRae (1-7, 0-4 CC) by a 39-5
margin, including a 22-2 advantage in the first half, while edging
the Bobcats, 33-29, in ground balls. The Royals controlled 15-of-20
draws, while converting 18-of-21 clear attempts.
Anna DeLuke (Woodstock, Ga.) tallied her fourth goal of the
season for the Bobcats, as Amy Beard (Fort Benning, Ga.) recorded
her first collegiate assist. Alex Smith (West Seneca, N.Y.) paced
Lees-McRae with five ground balls, as Katelin Rooney (Naples, Fla.)
and Nicole Dupont (Fort Myers, Fla.) each scoped four balls off the
turf. Jessica Travers (Asheville, N.C.) tallied 15 saves between
the pipes for the Bobcats.
Brittany Phillip paced Queens with three goals, as Brittany
Barnwell added a pair of strikes. Kristi Kemp and Caitlin Miller
each recorded two assists, as 14 different Royals found the back of
the net. Barnwell and Melissa Boulbol each recorded four ground
balls, as Danielle Horoschak and Chelsea Lancashire combined for
two saves between the pipes for the Royals.
Queens got off to a strong start, taking an early 4-0 lead in
the opening two minutes before stretching the margin to 8-0 on a
strike by Paige Fisher at the 13:57 mark. The Royals would push the
margin to 10-0 with 7:20 remaining in the period on a strike by
Shannon Casey off a Kemp assist.
The Royals opened the second half with six goals, taking a 16-0
advantage with less than a minute to go before DeLuke got the
Bobcats on the board with 12 ticks left off an assist by Beard.
Queens capped the scoring with a last-second strike.
Lees-McRae returns to action on Monday when the Bobcats travel
to Due West, S.C. to take on Erskine College at 5:30 p.m. in
conference play.
