SAINT CHARLES, Mo. --- The Fort Lewis College
women's lacrosse team outscored Lees-McRae College by a 13-3 margin
in the first half, rallying from an early 3-2 deficit with a 19-0
surge en route to a 23-4 victory in non-conference play on Saturday
afternoon on the campus of Lindenwood University.
Fort Lewis (5-5) outshot Lees-McRae (1-9) by a 39-6 margin,
including a 23-5 advantage in the first half, while winning the
ground ball battle by a stretch of 27-11. The Sky Hawks converted
13-of-15 clear attempts, while each team controlled 14 draws.
Olivia Gudewich (Frederick, Md.) paced the Bobcats with two
goals, as Tiffany Rodman (Corona, Calif.) and Nicole Dupont (Fort
Myers, Fla.) each found the back of the net. Anna DeLuke
(Woodstock, Ga.) tallied an assist, as Gudewich and Katelin Rooney
(Naples, Fla.) both tallied a team-high five draw controls. Jessica
Travers (Asheville, N.C.) made eight saves between the pipes for
the Bobcats.
Kylie Smith and Jessica Norby both scored a game-high four goals
to lead the way for Fort Lewis, as Jessica Adams, Abby Kvidera,
Amanda Hoffmeyer, and Kathryn Dunn each posted a hat trick. Norby
also added two assists, as Smith paced the Sky Hawks with a
game-high seven ground balls. Genna Waugh and Shelby Wichkoski
combined for two saves between the pipes.
Fort Lewis jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first three
minutes, opening the two-goal advantage on a strike by Smith before
Gudewich and Dupont evened the tally at 2-2 just over five minutes
into the contest. After Rodman gave the Bobcats a 3-2 lead with her
first of the season five minutes later, the Sky Hawks answered with
11 goals over the next 20 minutes to surge to a 13-3 lead at
halftime.
The Sky Hawks carried the momentum into the second half, opening
the period with eight goals in the first 17 minutes to stretch the
margin to 21-3 following Dunn's second strike of the afternoon.
Gudewich would answer with her second of the day for the Bobcats,
before Fort Lewis capped the scoring with a pair of late
strikes.
Lees-McRae returns to action on Sunday when the Bobcats take on
Lindenwood University in non-conference play at 12:30 p.m. in Saint
Charles, Mo.
