Bobcats Fall Victim To Late Tally at Catawba, 1-0

SALISBURY, N.C. --- The Lees-McRae women's soccer team dropped a tough 1-0 decision to Catawba Wednesday evening at Frock Field in Salisbury, N.C.

The Indians (9-4) won via shutout for the third time in their last four matches. The Bobcats (4-7-1) dropped their second consecutive 1-0 decision while senior goalie Kaitlyn Briggs (Oviedo, Fla.) registered seven saves.

The Indians broke a scoreless tie in the 87th minute whine Kiersten Peck retrieved a pass from Kate Weisner and was able to find the back of the net.

Juniors Mallory Overholt (Grand Bend, Ontario, Canada) and Mikaela Renfro (Orlando, Fla.) tested Catawba goalie Bethany Davis in the opening half, but Davis was able to make the save on both attempts.

Both defenses impressed in the first half while neither team was able to manage more than four shots.

Sophomore Erin Barcal (Wilmington, N.C.) and junior Sarah Mahar (Jacksonville, Fla.) put shot on frame 56 seconds apart in the second half.

The Bobcats return to action Saturday when they travel to Belmont Abbey for a Conference Carolinas tilt in Belmont, N.C. at 1 p.m.
