WILSON, N.C. --- Redshirt sophomore Kate Brandon notched her first goal of the season, but the Lees-McRae women's soccer team fell in overtime, 2-1, to Conference Carolinas foe Barton Saturday afternoon at Barton Soccer Field in Wilson, N.C.
The Bulldogs (10-3-2, 5-3-1 CC) held the slim shot advantage (17-14) while goalie Carson Moore earned her ninth win of the year. Despite the loss, the Bobcats (5-9-1, 4-4-1) still clinched a postseason berth while senior Kaitlyn Briggs (Oviedo, Fla.) amassed five saves.
Both teams exchanged shots early and often, but a successful Emily Futral penalty kick put the Bulldogs up 1-0 after 3:50 of play.
Senior Meagan Thornton (Millville, N.J.) had a team-high four shots, including two in the first 24 minutes of action.
Both defenses clamped down for a good portion of the match until Brandon (Charlotte, N.C.) retrieved a deep lob pass from sophomore Erin Barcal (Wilmington, N.C.) and proceeded to chip it over Moore at the 74:20 mark.
Sophomore Lena Langille (Lawrencetown, Nova Scotia) hit the post with 62 seconds remaining.
Sophomore Cheyenne Warrick (Pikeville, N.C.) had a header saved in the 96th minute.
BC tallied the golden goal when Taylor Doeble corralled a cross from Futral and didn't miss at the 97:51 mark.
