Women's Volleyball Drops Road Decision to Barton, 3-1

WILSON, N.C. --- A quartet of Lees-McRae women's volleyball players turned in at least 14 digs, but the team dropped a 22-25, 20-25, 25-15, 15-25 decision to Barton in a Conference Carolinas match at Wilson Gymnasium Saturday afternoon in Wilson, N.C.

The Bulldogs (9-15, 7-7 CC) had two player's notch a dozen kills while three others had 18 or more digs. The Bobcats (16-9, 9-5) fell for the second time in nine matches.

LMC inched out to a four-point lead, 15-11, following consecutive kills from sophomore Avalon Liscio (Naples, Fla.) and junior Jariliz Cotté.

BC's Melissa Cochran and Corinna Morton used two kills and a pair of aces to tie it at 15.

The Bobcats took advantage of shaky play by the Bulldog offense to go up 21-19.

The Bulldogs responded with a 6-1 run to rally back and take the opening set.

Cochran and Cotté produced 15 kills each on the day.

BC jumped out to an early 7-2 lead in the second following impressive play from Catherine Barber.

Coach Dave Schmidlin's squad cut the deficit to two following a Cotté kill, 12-10.

The Bulldogs used an 11-6 run to see the lead balloon to seven, 23-16.

A Haylee Leonard (Winston-Salem, N.C.) made it 24-10, but Cochran connected on a kill to end the set.

Leonard and freshman Siarra Walker (Winston-Salem, N.C.) stuffed a Kaitlyn Micol attack to give LMC a 21-11 lead in the third.

LMC swung a match-best .333 in the third set while leading wire-to-wire.

Liscio connected on one of her 10 kills while the Bobcats trailed 12-11 in the fourth.

BC caught fire and finished the match on a 13-4 run.

Cotté led the Bobcats with 19 digs and freshman Courtney Weathersbee (Raleigh, N.C.) dished out 17 assists.

LMC will travel to Erskine Friday at 7 p.m. for a CC tilt in Due West, S.C.
