Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Senior Trio Leads Men's Soccer to Semifinals, 2-1

BANNER ELK, N.C. --- Seniors James Galvani and James Smith scored a goal each and senior teammate Scott Alford dished out two assists while the No. 4 Lees-McRae men's soccer team bounced No. 5 King (Tenn.), 2-1, in a Conference Carolinas Quarterfinal match Monday night at Tate Field in Banner Elk, N.C.

The Bobcats (12-5-1) used a 23-shot barrage while Smith (Eastbourne, England) and Galvani (High Wycombe, England) combined for 14 of them in the victory. The Tornado (7-10) ended their season on a three-match losing skid.

Galvani used nifty footwork to best King's Kari Sveinsson on the lower right side at the 25:03 mark to put LMC up early.

Smith created the play with a pass to the top of the box to Alford (Hillsborough, N.C.), who headed it to Galvani at the left side of the net.

Coach Lee Squires' squad scored in the 53rd minute following a beautiful strike from the top of the box from Smith.

Alford fed it in and Smith played it off his chest and connected before the ball hit the ground.

The Tornado shaved the deficit to one when Kendale Liburd notched his first goal of the year following a pass from H. Johannsson in the 61st minue.

Sophomore Nicholas Stover (Titusville, Fla.) won his seventh match of the year while earning two saves on the evening.

LMC will travel to No. 1 Limestone Thursday at 5:30 p.m. for a Conference Carolinas Semifinals bout in Gaffney, S.C.
