Bobcat Softball Falls in Twin Bill at Carson-Newman

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. --- The Lees-McRae softball team dropped a pair of decisions at Carson-Newman in nonconference action, 8-0 and 4-0, Thursday afternoon at The Vick in Jefferson City, Tenn.

The Eagles (2-0) used solid pitching in both games and a six-RBI performance from Sara Kelley in game one to earn their first wins of the season. The Bobcats (0-6) struggled offensively while accumulating three hits between the two contests.

In the opener, Kelley boosted C-N into the lead with a two-run shot to left field in the bottom of the second.

Following consecutive singles in the bottom of the third, Kelley stroked a two-run double to right to push the lead to 4-0.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Eagles Brittany Hefner ripped a triple to right, setting the table for the third time for Kelley. The third baseman connected on her second two-run homer of the game, 6-0.

C-N would push across one more run in the inning thanks to an RBI groundout off the bat of Sarah Howard.

A fielder's choice by Hefner capped off the Eagle scoring while claiming an 8-0 victory.

Howard picked up the win with six innings of one-hit ball. Charlie Dutton (Monroe, Ga.) (0-3) was credited with the loss after allowing four runs in four innings, but impressed with seven strikeouts.

In the second game, the Eagles scored at least a run from the fourth to sixth inning to distance themselves from LMC.

Audrey Woodby scored Hefner with a RBI single in the bottom of the fourth.

Kelli Hensley plated Brittany Bass with a groundout after Bass belted a leadoff triple.

C-N plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth thanks to consecutive bases loaded walks.

Celeste Sheppard (East Julian, N.C.) (0-3) was the tough luck loser despite allowing two earned runs in 5.1 innings of work.

LMC returns to action to battle Brevard in a double dip at 1 & 3 p.m. in Brevard, N.C.
