BOCA RATON, Fla. --- The Lees-McRae men's lacrosse team set a season-high in shots and groundballs while Kyle Judge tallied two goals, but LMC was unable to overcome a slow start in a 15-3 loss to Lynn University Tuesday evening at Pope John Paul II High School in Boca Raton, Fla.
The Fighting Knights (1-2) netted eight goals in the first 15 minutes while Brian Kiel was responsible for two, along with two assists. The Bobcats (0-5) scooped up 38 groundballs and amassed 31 shots while Benjamin Shifflett (Clemmons, N.C.) made his goalie debut for the season.
Lynn controlled the pace early while sustaining a 3-0 lead in the first four minutes of action. Kiel notched his of first of his game-high five goals at the 11:06 mark in the first quarter.
Kiel and a duo of Fighting Knights pushed the lead to 7-0 before LMC's Schuylor Dickerson (Crozet, Va.) cracked the scoreboard with unassisted goal with 1:21 remaining.
Coach Darry Thornton's squad settled in defensively while holding Lynn at bay despite Kiel notching a goal and assist.
Senior Kyle Judge (Hampstead, Md.) corralled a pass from Jarrod Brady (Kernersville, N.C.) and ripped home a goal with 3:15 remaining in the third quarter.
Judge struck again after receiving a pass from Louis Parks (Mays Landing, N.J.) to conclude the game's scoring with 1:43 left in the fourth.
Sophomore Dustin Barrow (Columbia, S.C.) led the team with seven groundballs while Parks paced the team with eight shots. Shifflett earned 16 saves on the day.
Lynn's Kiel turned in a five-goal effort while five other Fighting Knights had two goals apiece.
LMC travels to play Tampa in Tampa, Fla., Thursday at 3 p.m.
