St. AUGUSTINE, Fla. --- Senior Meagan Thornton (Millville, N.J.) registered a match-high five shots, but the Lees-McRae women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to No. 15 Tampa Sunday afternoon in St. Augustine, Fla.
The Spartans (4-0-1) remained perfected while taking 23 shots and Caroline Frykgard earned the shutout. The Bobcats (0-3) saw senior goalie Kaitlyn Briggs (Oviedo, Fla.) match a season-high with eight saves.
UT's Arielle Gonzalez found teammate Cici Gonzalez in the middle of the box, who blasted a shot past Briggs at the 17:21 mark.
LMC's Cheyenne Warrick (Pikeville, N.C.) put a shot on frame three minutes later, but was stonewalled by Frykgard.
Briggs made three more saves before the end of the half to keep it a 1-0 match.
C. Gonzalez notched her second goal of the match with a 16-yard blast in the 81st minute to deliver the knockout blow.
Junior Sarah Mahar (Jacksonville, Fla.) put a shot on goal while a trio of Spartans registered four shots each.
The Bobcats return to action Saturday Sept. 20 at 5 p.m. to battle Erskine in a Conference Carolinas battle in Due West, S.C.
