Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Mahar's Magic Elevates Bobcats, 1-0

BANNER ELK, N.C. --- Junior Sarah Mahar provided some magic with a goal in the 87th minute to lift the Lees-McRae women's soccer to a 1-0 win against Mars Hill Monday evening at Tate Field in Banner Elk, N.C.

The Bobcats (3-4) and senior goalie Kaitlyn Briggs (Oviedo, Fla.) notched a shutout for the second time in three matches. The Lions (0-9) remain winless on the season after failing to score a goal for the fourth time this season.

Mahar (Jacksonville, Fla.) had a shot hit the crossbar at the 12:50 mark while leading the team in shots on the evening with five.

The junior ran down a long pass from junior Erica Allen (Norton, Ohio) right in front of the keeper. Mars Hill's keeper, Maslyn Greene, and Mahar collided, but Mahar stood strong and kept possession before knocking in the short shot at the 87:03 mark.

Briggs and Greene both had four saves on the evening.

LMC outshot MHU 8-4 in the final 45 minutes.

The Bobcats return to action Wednesday when they host Tusculum at 7 p.m. on Tate Field.
