SALISBURY, N.C. --- James Galvani kicked off his senior campaign in thrilling fashion when he drilled home a header with 11 seconds remaining in regulation to break a scoreless tie to propel the Lees-McRae men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory against Catawba Thursday evening at Frock Field in Salisbury, N.C.
The Bobcats (1-0) won their season opener for the first time since 2009 while the Indians (0-1) were only able to muster five shots on the evening.
Galvani (High Wycombe, England) is no stranger to heroism while he notched his 10th career match-winning goal.
Sophomore Daniel Harris (Wilmington, N.C.) earned the assist after he took the sixth LMC corner kick of the second half and found Galvani's head in the waning seconds of regulation.
Freshman netminder Tyler Pavlet (Goodyear, Ariz.) made an impressive collegiate debut while earning the clean slate and one save.
Reigning Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year Jordan Wright (Winchburg, West Lothian, Scotland) tied for a match-high with four shots while Galvani notched four and freshman Thomas Deeley (Timaru, Scotland) accumulated three.
Five Catawba registered a shot each while goalie Christian Watts amassed four saves.
