MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. --- Despite cranking out 17 shots, the Lees-McRae women's soccer team fell to Mount Olive, 2-0, in a Conference Carolinas match Saturday afternoon in Mount Olive, N.C.
The Trojans (7-3-2, 6-1-2 CC) continued their conference with success thanks the foot of Nichole Poppe, who produced a match-high eight shots and earned an assist. The Bobcats (4-8, 2-5) saw their two-match win streak come to an end while four players recorded at least two shots.
LMC looked poised to strike early when an Erin Barcal (Wilmington, N.C.) header landed on frame while UMO made a team save.
Less than two minutes later, junior Emma McGovern (Lexington, N.C.) sent a shot just high.
The Trojans drew first blood when Ellie Barnes took a cross from Poppe and was able to sneak it past the LMC keeper.
The Bobcats kept the aggressive offense in tact throughout the second half when Sarah Mahar (Jacksonville, Fla.) and Nikki Torres (Monroe, N.C.) had a shot blocked and saved, respectively.
UMO extended its lead at the 67:29 mark when Niza Vera took one touch off a free kick from Christine Rocchio and bested the Bobcat goalie.
Freshman keeper Alexis Feely (Wake Forest, N.C.) made seven saves.
The Bobcats have a short break before welcoming Barton to Tate Field Monday, Oct. 19 at 3 p.m.
The contest is a makeup from Oct. 3.
