Women's Soccer Falls to King (Tenn.) on Road

BRISTOL, Tenn. --- Senior Mallory Overholt notched her third goal of the season, but the Lees-McRae women's soccer team dropped a 7-1 decision to King (Tenn.) in Conference Carolinas tilt on a rainy Tuesday afternoon in Bristol, Tenn.

The Tornado (9-5-2, 7-2-1) used a hat trick in the first half from Kara Garrett to earn the win. The Bobcats (4-11-1, 2-7-1) saw senior Sarah Mahar (Jacksonville, Fla.) record a match-high nine shots.

Garrett finished the contest with four goals while Hulda Sigurdardottir had two and Kendyl Baird had a goal and an assist.

Overholt (Grand Bend, Ontario, Canada) grabbed an Emma McGovern (Lexington, N.C.) pass from the left side and tapped it past King's Olivia Drake within the first minute.

The Tornado defense buckled down while the offense put together a 7-0 run throughout the rest of the match.

Freshman Brenna Malastestinic (Indianapolis, Ind.) made a save in her collegiate debut.

The teams combined for 34 shots, including 22 in the second half.

LMC welcomes Erskine Saturday, Oct. 31 at 3 p.m. for the Bobcats regular season finale.
